Locking Fuel Door for the 2020 Forest River XLR Boost 27QB
The Forest River XLR Boost is one of the most popular travel trailer toy haulers on the road, and most floorplans share one feature owners love: an onboard fuel station. The catch is that its round filler sits on the outside of the trailer with a plain cap and no lock.
This guide covers the 2020 XLR Boost 27QB and its sister floorplans, and the part that locks the fuel station.
The 2020 XLR Boost 27QB at a glance
Forest River's 2020 XLR Boost brochure lists the 27QB as a travel trailer toy hauler about 31 feet long, with an 84-inch U-dinette, a queen master suite and a rear garage for side-by-sides, dirt bikes or quads. Its REV package includes a 30-gallon external fuel station with pump and generator prep.
The same fuel station is listed on the larger 29QB and 31QB. The 27QBX is listed without it, so check your trailer for a separate fuel filler on the side before ordering anything.
The problem: an exposed fuel-station filler
The fuel station is there so you can fill your toys and run the generator at camp. That means it is often full while the trailer sits at a riding area, dunes, track, campground or storage lot, which is exactly when fuel goes missing.
- The filler has a plain cap, not a locking one
- A parts-store locking cap is hit or miss on thread and size, and can still be pried off
- Sand, dirt and water around the filler end up in the fuel that runs your toys and generator
The fix: RV Fuel Vault Round single
The RV Fuel Vault Round single (RVFV-1001R) is a keyed locking door built for the round filler used on toy hauler fuel stations. It bolts over the filler with the included 5-piece round-bezel security screw pack, with no drilling of the filler neck. Your original cap stays in place underneath.

All of these are still being confirmed. If your toy hauler has two fillers (for example a generator fill and the fuel-station fill), you need the Round Door 2-Pack (RVFV-2001R, $319.95 pre-order), keyed alike so one key opens both.
How to install
- Clean the area around the fuel-station filler.
- Set the RV Fuel Vault over the round bezel and line up the mounting holes.
- Drive the included security screws.
- Close the door, lock it and test the key.
Most owners finish in about 10 to 15 minutes with basic hand tools.
