What is the First Responder Fuel Vault?
It is a heavy-duty locking fuel door that mounts over the exposed fuel cap area on fire apparatus, ambulances, and police command vehicles. It replaces an open, unprotected fuel cap with a locking door so nobody can reach the cap without a key.
What finish does it come in?
Every First Responder Fuel Vault ships in a black finish. Black was chosen because it blends with modern apparatus trim, hides road grime between washes, and does not draw attention to the fuel area.
Are the locks keyed alike?
Yes. Doors ordered together for a department are keyed alike, so a single key opens every unit in the fleet. That keeps the fueling routine simple for crews running multiple rigs.
What sizes are available?
There is a Small door and a Large door. The Small door covers standard exposed fuel cap openings found on Ford E-450, F-550, F-600, and Ram 5500 chassis. The Large door covers oversized fuel cap openings. Multi-packs are available for dual-tank and DEF-equipped units.
Do you cover the DEF fill as well?
Yes. On units with an exposed DEF cap next to the fuel fill, a second door can be added to protect the DEF fill. Three-packs exist specifically for dual-tank plus DEF configurations.
Which chassis does it fit?
The most common first responder platforms: Ford E-450, Ford F-550, Ford F-600, Ram 5500, Freightliner M2, and International CV. If your apparatus is on a different chassis, send photos through the contact form and we will confirm fit before you order.
Will it fit a police cruiser or patrol sedan?
No. The First Responder Fuel Vault is built for command units, mobile command posts, SWAT vehicles, and other heavy-chassis police apparatus with an exposed fuel cap. Patrol sedans and SUVs use an enclosed factory fuel door and do not need it.
How do I confirm fitment on my apparatus?
Take a straight-on photo of the fuel fill area and a tape measure across the opening, then send both through the contact form. We will tell you which size you need and how many doors your configuration takes.
How long does installation take?
Most departments complete a single door in under an hour with basic hand tools. No cutting, welding, or drilling into the fuel system is required — the door mounts to the existing fuel cap housing area.
What hardware is included?
Tamper-resistant security screws are included with every door, along with the Safety Torx driver bit needed to install them. Each door uses 12 screws, and every pack ships with at least one spare in case a screw is stripped during installation.
Can our own shop install it, or do we need a dealer?
Your own mechanics or apparatus techs can install it. Nothing about the job requires a certified installer. Departments that would rather have it done during a scheduled service can have their upfitter handle it.
Do I need to replace the fuel cap housing bezel?
Only if the existing bezel is cracked, faded, or missing. Factory replacement bezels in Small and Large are available as an add-on so the finished install looks clean.
Is fleet pricing available?
Yes. Departments ordering for multiple apparatus should submit a fleet inquiry. We quote by unit count and configuration, and we can supply the documentation your purchasing process needs.
Do you accept purchase orders from municipalities?
